THE ART OF PUNK
An exhibit about the 1977 Punk explosion of Los Angeles.

Vallen's "Portrait of Suzy" 1979 THE ART OF PUNK will be the inaugural exhibit for the brand new Kantor Gallery on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. The exhibit will offer artworks and related materials documenting the rise of L.A.'s Punk underground at the close of the 20th century. Original artworks by Mark Vallen will be included in the exhibit, along with works by Raymond Pettibone (graphic Artist for Black Flag), Shepard Fairey (known for his Obey absurdist propaganda street posters), Dave Leamon, and Emek.

Vallen's cover Illustrations for the L.A. Weekly and SLASH magazine (L.A.'s late 70's Punk propaganda organ) will be on display... as well as his numerous portraits of Punk band members and fans. The exhibit will also include over 800 original Flyers and Posters, as well as Artist's Books from bands like Black Flag, the Ramones and more. A grand Artist's Reception will open the inaugural exhibit on Saturday, February 1st, from 6 - 9 pm. The Kantor Gallery is located at 7025 Melrose Ave.

STUCKISM
The "Re-Modernist" Art Revolution

Modernism, that great driving force in creative and intellectual circles since the late 1800's, is dead... or so it's said. We are now in the era of the so-called Postmodern, where there is no truth... and God, reason, and man fails us. Where equality, liberation, and spirituality are merely unnatural intellectual constructs, and where a dead sheep in a vat of formaldehyde is considered Art.

Enter the Stuckists... malcontent Figurative Painters who reject the Postmodern ideal that "anything can be Art" and insist that Painting must regain the center stage of the Art world. Who are these Revolutionaries and what is their plan for overturning the elite Art establishment? Find out at:

THE ANTI-WAR ART SHOW
The price of intervention - from Korea to Iraq

Historic anti-war posters designed by professional and amateur artists alike will be on display starting January 11th when the Center for the Study of Political Graphics (CSPG) opens it's latest exhibit at the Track 16 Gallery in Santa Monica, California. One of my early 1980's street Posters is included in this exhibition. Some of the other Posters will no doubt be familiar to the viewer like Lorraine Schneider's 1968 classic, "War is Not Healthy for Children and other living things." Many other iconic symbols of the late 60's will be displayed... like the works of Sister Corita Kent. Recognized for her Serigraph Prints that utilized montage techniques and text as part of their aesthetic, Corita used her Art as a platform to attack racism, poverty, consumerist culture, and U.S. Imperialism in Vietnam. The Price of Intervention will also include more recent Poster works by Artists from the 80's and 90's that deal with the arms race and the conflicts in Central America.

The Price of Intervention opens Saturday January 11th with a reception from 6 - 9 pm. The show runs through Feb. 15th, 2003. Track 16 Gallery is located at the Bergamont Station Arts Center, 2525 Michigan Ave., Building C-1, in Santa Monica. Gallery hours are 11 am to 6 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Call the Gallery at (310) 264-4678. To see a sampling of the show, check the Gallery's website, at:
