Shocking & Awful at MOMA
The first national grassroots satellite network, Deep Dish TV, has produced a new thirteen part series about the US occupation of Iraq, Shocking & Awful. In the words of Deep Dish, the “programs address the implications and consequences of this country’s recent military actions. The series also shows how people are mobilizing through art, actions, and international law.” The production was produced by dozens of independent video activists and is currently being distributed via community access channels.
The Museum of Modern Art in New York will be screening an installment from the show on February 12th, as part of the museum’s 2005 Film and Media Exhibitions series dedicated to “Art & Politics.” MOMA’s ongoing film screenings include many other important nonfiction works that run the gambit in terms of subject matter, so even if you can’t attend the screenings, examine the schedule to see what’s new on the independent art film circuit. Admission to the film series is $10. For more info, call the museum at: (212) 708-9400.
