Call For Artists: Utopia
The A Shenere Velt Gallery of West Los Angeles has issued an Artists Call for its upcoming exhibit, Utopia. Artists are being asked to submit slides of up to three wall-hung works in any media (except ceramics and jewelry) that speak to the theme of “Utopia.” The call for entries reads:
“In a world climate of pessimism and fear, dreams of earthly paradise and possibility are vital. Pieces selected for this show will reflect on the myriad imaginings of perfect worlds and the shape they might take.”
I’m honored that the gallery director, Eric A. Gordon, asked me to serve as a juror in the selecting of submitted artworks - a responsibility I’ll be sharing with distinguished colleagues Mark Greenfield (Artist and Director of the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery) and Alice Wexler (Writer, Scholar, and Biographer of Emma Goldman.) The due date for entry forms is September 1st, 2006, and the exhibit will run from November 5th to December 29th, 2006. Digital submissions will be accepted. Video art may be submitted. A full prospectus, digital submission information, and further information about the exhibition can be found on the gallery’s website: www.circlesocal.org/utopia.html
