This
detail from the Hiroshima Panels
by Iri and Toshi Maruki depicts a group of young women
surrounded by atomic fire. The panel sequence this
detail comes from presents more than thirty people
trapped in a hellish firestorm - hoping and praying
for escape. Rather than attempt to show the entire
panel (which is quite large), I instead focused on
this remarkable trio of forlorn figures located at
the right end of the painting. The artists possessed
amazing skill and their superlative draftsmanship
shows in the sensitive rendering of the girl's bodies.
