This
painting was created by Nakano Kenichi, who was 48
when he witnessed the atomic bombing of Hiroshima
in 1945.
In
Mr. Nakano's own words: "The river in the
early morning of August near Yokogawa-bashi. Never
before had I seen such an appalling sight. Spontaneously
I fall to my knees on the river bank and join
my hands in prayer."
