"We
are afraid"
Mark Vallen 1987
Pencil on paper - 11 1/2" x 12" inches
Artist's
statement:
"This
drawing was created as a statement against the wars
that raged throughout Central America in the 1980s.
The children of the region suffered the most, and
it is to them that I dedicated my drawing.
The artwork was published as a flyer announcing a
massive peace demonstration in Los Angeles in 1987.
The image was further disseminated in 2009 when it
was featured in "Man's
Inhumanity to Man: Journey out of Darkness" an
exhibit at the Brand Library Art Gallery in Glendale,
California.
My
drawing was also featured on the second largest Spanish-language
TV network in the U.S. (Telemundo 52), when I was
interviewed on May 6, 2009, concerning the "Man's
Inhumanity to Man" exhibition."
