They made their way to the Salle des Estates room that displays the <i>Mona Lisa<\/i> by Leonardo da Vinci.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Arriving in the room <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/01\/28\/news\/protesters-hurl-soup-at-da-vincis-mona-lisa-in-paris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">they hurled globs of pumpkin soup on the masterpiece<\/a> from bottles they smuggled into the museum. Photo: Food Response.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The two twisted individuals from Riposte Alimentaire were Sasha (24-years-old, and Marie-Juliette (63-years-old), they were later arrested for their vandalism. After lobbing soup onto one of the world\u2019s most beloved artworks, one of the vandals screamed: \u201cWhat\u2019s more important, art, or the right to healthy and sustainable food?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Pretending to care about farmers and the working class, the group released a statement on their X account. \u201cOur agricultural and food system\u201d it read in part \u201chas extremely worrying environmental consequences.\u201d They went on to say: \u201cAgriculture is responsible for 21% of national greenhouse gas emissions and contributes greatly to the deterioration of our biodiversity and the impoverishment of soils.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You know where this is going. In their declaration Riposte Alimentaire let the world know that modern agriculture\u2014you know the system that feeds the world, \u201cexposes us to serious food insecurity.\u201d The solution of course is to <i>fling soup onto the Mona Lisa<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 720px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-16969-1\" width=\"720\" height=\"1280\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/art-for-a-change.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/food_response_mona_lisa.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/art-for-a-change.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/food_response_mona_lisa.mp4\">https:\/\/art-for-a-change.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/food_response_mona_lisa.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p><em><span class=\"s1\">Video: Food Response<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In their pronouncement the cadre of Riposte Alimentaire sounded much like the <a href=\"https:\/\/art-for-a-change.com\/blog\/2021\/07\/year-zero-converting-from-vice-to-virtue.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Khmer Rouge<\/a>: \u201cTo avoid the mass famines that threaten us, we urgently need to transform our food production model.\u201d What\u2019s needed, according to the eco-alarmists, is to provide \u201ceach resident\u201d with a \u201cfood card topped up with an amount of \u20ac150 each month, to purchase approved and democratically selected products.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Riposte Alimentaire demands that \u201cfood must be universal, democratic, and sustainable.\u201d And what will these eco-cretin fundamentalists say to the masses of French farmers who oppose their utopianism?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Hmm&#8230; \u201capproved and democratically selected products.\u201d Yes, the state will provide food, provided you follow its instructions and dictates. Riposte Alimentaire\u2019s proposed monthly welfare payment of $162 dollars a month in food does not change the West\u2019s agricultural system in the least, but it does sound a lot like the dystopian regime described in George Orwell\u2019s <i>1984<\/i>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For their part, the UKs notorious eco-vandals Just Stop Oil, who have been waging their own <a href=\"https:\/\/art-for-a-change.com\/blog\/category\/war-on-art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">War on Art<\/a>, posted on X words of solidarity regarding the vandalizing of Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece&#8230; \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JustStop_Oil\/status\/1751677286229700968\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Good soup, nice work.<\/a>\u201d The encouraging words were accompanied by the following poisonous visual response.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 1080px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-16969-2\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1920\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/art-for-a-change.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/just_stop_oil_idiots.mp4?_=2\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/art-for-a-change.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/just_stop_oil_idiots.mp4\">https:\/\/art-for-a-change.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/just_stop_oil_idiots.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p><em>Video: Just Stop Oil.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This is what the end of Western Civilization looks like.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>_________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><strong><span class=\"s1\">UPDATE: Feb 4, 2024: <\/span><\/strong><\/em><span class=\"s1\">Corporate media had a field day reporting that the Los Angeles Times laid off at least 115 people from its newsroom on Jan. 23, 2024. That&#8217;s more than 20% of the paper&#8217;s news staff. No paragon of journalism, CNN put it this way; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/us\/the-los-angeles-times-plunges-into-chaos-as-brutal-layoffs-loom-and-senior-editors-call-it-quits\/ar-BB1h7R6s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Los Angeles Times plunges into &#8216;chaos&#8217; as brutal layoffs loom and senior editors call it quits<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Indicating the severity of the cuts Meg James, <i>senior entertainment writer<\/i> of the Los Angeles Times, was given the unenviable task of <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/qNlJE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reporting on the paper capsizing<\/a>. James admitted that the cuts were \u201cone of the largest workforce reductions in the history of the 142-year-old institution.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Meg James paraphrased Times owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, saying \u201cthe paper could no longer lose $30 million to $40 million a year without making progress toward building a higher readership that would bring in advertising and subscriptions to sustain the organization.\u201d Which is another way of saying the Times is bleeding out from a self-inflicted wound and no one knows how to use a tourniquet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to the <i>senior entertainment writer<\/i>, the Times owner also said; \u201cit is imperative that we act urgently and take steps to build a sustainable and thriving paper for the next generation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">And how exactly is the LA Times \u201cstrengthening the outlet\u2019s journalism\u201d? Well, they published a Feb. 1, 2024 opinion piece titled; <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/ezbJa#selection-1791.10-1791.13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>How throwing soup at the Mona Lisa can help fight climate change<\/i><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I ended my <em>Don\u2019t Play With Your Food<\/em> essay with the words &#8220;This is what the end of Western Civilization looks like.&#8221; I would like to make a formal alteration to that statement so that it applies to the sinking Los Angeles Times; <i>This is what the end of journalism looks like<\/i>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday morning Jan. 28, 2024, two members of the French eco-extremist group Riposte Alimentaire (Food Response), invaded the Mus\u00e9e du Louvre in Paris with ill intent.
