Christian
Schad
Oil on Canvas 1928
Schad
was an adherent of the Neue
Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) school within the Expressionist
movement.
He
focused his attention on those socially disengaged people
who filled elite clubs just prior to the Nazi takeover.
His sensual paintings were filled with depictions of the
hedonism and apathy associated with cabarets and apolitical
intellectuals.
Schad
became involved with the dadaist movement and made "photograms",
a camera-less photographic process the artist called "Schadographs."
The artist died in 1982.
