BACK
TO PUNK ALBUM COVERS
The
EXPLOITED were Scottish punks that gained
a large following with their aggressive sound and
pointed lyrics. In 1983 they released Let's Start
a War Said Maggie One Day, which was classic political
punk. The title's reference was to then Prime Minister
of England, Margaret Thatcher. The album cover art
was created by American punk artist, Pus Head,
who gained some minor notoriety in the punk scene
through his many illustrations for bands and fanzines.

The
Exploited wrote some brilliant anti-war lyrics, with their
'Let's Start A War' album containing some of the best
pacifist songs yet written. Their chilling song, Eyes
of a Vulture, told of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon
and the subsequent massacre of Palestinian civilians at
the Sabra refugee camp.... the lyrics still possess great
power; "See the darkened Lebanese
skies, vultures pick on those who died, bloated bodies stench
the air, while Israeli soldiers stand and stare."
