BACK TO PUNK ALBUM COVERS

Conflict is an English punk band that presents itself as a group of activist anarchists. They were very influential in the early to mid-80's and rallied many to the punk movement. Cruise, their first single... voiced an angry opposition to US cruise missiles being based in England, and the song helped fuel the anti-nuke movement that swept the UK. The album pictured at left was released in 1986 and titled; The Ungovernable Force.

On this album cover the band printed a video screen shot of an English policeman firing a teargas grenade launcher at protesters. At the time there were many anti-war and anti-nuke demonstrations in England that were being violently repressed by the conservative Thatcher government, and many felt the UK was veering towards becoming a police state. Today the band is still recording and touring, and very much committed to their original mission.
