Group Exhibit at Lake Arrowhead, CA.

I’m showing a number of artworks at Religion, Politics and Society, a group exhibit that also features artists, John Paul Thornton, Dolores Guerrero-Torres, Paul Batou, and David Ross. The exhibition is at the Lake Arrowhead Gallery and Museum of Art (LAGMA), located in the beautiful mountain resort community of Lake Arrowhead, California, in the San Bernardino National Forest. For those in the general vicinity, leave the tension of the city behind for a few hours to walk through the woodlands, take lunch on lake’s edge, breath some real air – and enjoy an exhibit of fine art.

The Artist’s Reception took place on Saturday May 19th, 2007, and around 70 people packed the gallery. I attended the opening, but also spent the entire weekend in Lake Arrowhead for an unforgettable experience – really – don’t miss this show. The exhibit runs until July 8th, 2007. LAGMA is located in the Willow Woods Art Colony at: 28561 Highway 18. Sky Forest, CA 92385. Gallery hours are 12 – 4, Thursday through Saturday, and 10 – 1 on Sundays. Phone: (909) 337-8606. I’m working on a new series of large oil paintings depicting the ubiquitous palm trees of Los Angeles, set on fire and blazing away against L.A.’s photochemical sunsets. The works allude to the intrinsic wildness of my city, where every year the surrounding hills are swept by fire, a phenomenon experienced by no other major metropolis on earth. It is…

Art and the Global Economic Meltdown

An unavoidable political topic is on the lips of everyone in the art world these days, I am not speaking of the U.S. presidential election – but of an international economic meltdown the likes of which we have not seen since the Great Depression of the 1930s. No matter what “new” political circumstances we wake up to in the aftermath…

Larry Beinhart, author of Wag the Dog, just published an interesting essay titled, Abdication of the Artists. In his piece Beinhart bemoans the complacency of contemporary artists, using the annual exhibit produced by the Woodstock Guild of Artists as an example of the apathy he detests. Beinhart writes: “This year there were 152 pieces. Some were very clever. Some amusing….
